FYI, the XML::RSS module is pretty forgiving as long as the RSS file is well-formed XML. Unfortunately, many RSS files are not. I actually maintain links and other tags in the RSS items by encoding the < and > characters before I parse it. The next version (which I'm working on now), will have a strict mode which will only allow what's in the spec, and an RSS validator.

IMHO, adding tags in RSS items is not recommended if it's being distributed to the general public.
